Vestex by Vestagen Technical Textiles

03/14/2011

(Inside Fashion) - Vestex is the first technology that combines a fluid barrier with antimicrobial properties for the highest level of protection against contaminants, as well as comfort enhancing properties, to improve wear ability.

In a healthcare workplace employees can come in contact with  a high volume of a contaminant such as treating a patient who is bleeding or vomiting.  “Antimicrobials can’t act on a huge volume of a contaminant.  So the first step must be to create a fluid barrier which reduces the amount of the contaminant which remains on the garment and prevents it from penetrating the garment and possibly coming in contact with the worker’s skin,” said Ben Favret, president and CEO of Vestagen.  The antimicrobial in the fabric can then act on the smaller level of contaminant that remains on the garment.

The Vestex technology is based on the Schoeller 3X Dry process, which has been modified to increase the level of the fluid barrier and added a fast-acting antimicrobial which has a more rapid kill time than other common antimicrobials such as silver.  It is applied to the dyed fabric and is suitable for natural, man-made and synthetic fibers.  Unlike previous materials that offered a high level fluid barrier, Vestex treated fabrics are breathable and retain their pre-treatment hand feel and color, making workwear comfortable and well as functional.

Applications:
Developed for the healthcare industry, Vestex treated apparel can offer protection to the childcare, food services and athletic industries.
